RMC Flight Operations

Rocky Mountain College's flight training is conducted at nearby Billings Logan International Airport, 2 miles away. The fleet consists of Piper Archers III's, Beechcraft Bonanza complex aircraft (in which students will obtain a high performance rating), and Piper Seminole multi-engine aircraft. All aircraft and simulators are equipped with the Garmin 430 Global Positioning System. We are proud of glass cockpit training in both the airplane and simulator--the system is the Avidyne FlightMax Entegra glass cockpit. “Glass cockpit” aircraft have computer screens instead of traditional round dials. These planes are among the best equipped training aircraft anywhere.

Future employers of our graduates will require skills learned in these advanced training aircraft. Our goal is to provide students with the training and education necessary to reach their goals and be competitive in the marketplace.

Rocky is approved for Veterans Administration GI Bill educational benefits, both for tuition and for flight training.

All of our aircraft are completely owned by the college, and all employees at Flight Operations work for the college. Our only focus is on training our own students.

Flying in Montana is a great experience. The weather is good year-round since the climate is relatively mild with low precipitation. It does of course vary through out the year, which makes our pilots even better. The terrain also is varied, which leads to good training, besides being beautiful.

Billings airport is a modern international airport with enough activity to be challenging and educational, but no so much as to be frustrating for student training. Just minutes after takeoff our pilots are in the wide open spaces of our practice areas, which save valuable time and money.

“I’ve been a member of Rocky’s Aviation Advisory Committee for over 10 years. They train pilots well—not just in how to fly a plane, but in how to make decisions, how to operate safely, and how to be the best they can be. This program is a strong leader in aviation education in the western U.S.”
