DILLON — Montana Western outfought Rocky Mountain College 91-88 in double overtime Saturday night in a wild Frontier Conference men’s basketball game.

The Bulldogs tied the game at the end of regulation play 71-71 on a 3-pointer by Garrett Fink with nine seconds to play. The Battlin’ Bears forced the second OT tied at 81-81 on a late jumper by Theo Jackson.

Two free throws by Terry Hauser with 10 seconds left put Western up 91-88 in the second OT. A 3-point attempt by Rocky’s EJ Ross fell short in the closing seconds.

“That was an outstanding Frontier Conference game, but a poor outcome for us,” Rocky coach Bill Dreikosen said.

Rocky, which led by as many as 12 points in the first half and 10 in the second, is now 5-4 in conference games and 10-14 overall. Western is 7-2 and 19-6.

“Those are the kind that really hurt,” Dreikosen said of the tough loss. “But I don’t fault the kids one bit. I’m really proud of their effort. This was like a heavyweight fight. It was blow after blow after blow.”

Six Bulldogs scored in double figures, led by Brandon Brown’s 22 points and JaRon Brown’s 19. Fink added 13 points and 10 rebounds.

The Bears had five players with double-digit scoring, including Orlandor Westbrooks and Ross with 19 each. Anthony Allen was close behind with 17 points and 14 rebounds.

Rocky’s men will be playing at Carroll College on Friday night.
