Rocky’s Yang Yang named First Team All-America

BILLINGS, Mont., December 8, 2014 – Rocky Mountain College’s Yang Yang was named NAIA First-Team Volleyball All-America Monday, Dec. 8.

Yang, a 6-foot senior middle hitter from Yongan, China, joined 13 others that made up the first team that was chosen by the NAIA Volleyball All-America selection committee.

Yang represented the Battlin’ Bears on this year’s 14-member NAIA National All-Tournament team. She led the tournament in blocks with two per game, finished third in kills with 5.3 per set, and seventh in hitting percentage with .365 percent.

The Bears (31-1), who were ranked No. 1 in the nation the vast majority of the season, finished the tournament 3-1, after being upset by Viterbo (Wisc.) Friday, Dec. 5.

On the season, Yang was named the Frontier Conference Player of the Year, as well as the Northwest Region (Frontier, Cascade, Northstar conferences) Player of the Year.

During the regular season, Yang led the nation in total blocks (106) and blocks per game (1.590). She completed her two-year Rocky career with a total of 1,016 kills.
