BILLINGS, Mont., December 19, 2019 – The RMC IHSA Western team took High Point Team and Sarah Thompson took High Point Rider at a recent IHSA show in Logan, Utah. The RMC Western Equestrian team traveled to the show with six top quality horsemanship horses to compete over the weekend of November 16 and 17.
The team brought ten riders, spanning from freshmen to seniors. Also accompanying the team were Hannah Davis and Clayton Gonzalez, who helped run the show along with RMC team coach, Chris Brown. Over the course of two days, the team participated in three shows, competing with various colleges including University of Utah Logan and Montana State University.
Rocky Mountain College took High Point Team Saturday afternoon and Sunday Morning, as well as becoming Reserve High Point Team Saturday Morning. Another accomplishment came from Sarah Thompson, who was awarded High Point Rider two out of the three shows, and was awarded Reserve High Point Rider Saturday morning as well. Esther Smith, Ria Mccarthy, and Emily Thompson had already acquired enough points to qualify for regionals this season.
Several freshmen also made their debut for the College. Zoë Bowens placed first in two out of the three shows in her class, Rebecca Kearns came in second and third in her class, and Isabella Velasco placed first in her class during one show. Returning riders also fared well. Overall, Rocky Mountain College is a team easily recognized at IHSA Shows and has been awarded many High Point Team titles. This season alone, Rocky Mountain College has a great group of talented riders under the direction of Chris Brown. The team hopes to continue their success all the way to Nationals next year.
