Optometry (O.D.)

Description:

Optometrists are healthcare professionals that provide primary eye care through comprehensive eye exams. Their training differs from that of ophthalmologists, who are medical doctors that specialize in advanced medical and surgical care of the eye.

Additional requirements:

  • GPA of at least 2.75
  • Completed Bachelor’s degree (BS preferred)
  • OAT exam
  • Grade of a “C” or better in prerequisite courses
  • Letters of recommendation (one from a practicing optometrist)
  • Shadowing highly encouraged
  • Extracurricular activities that demonstrate service
