Safety
At Rocky Mountain College, safety is paramount in all that we do. Everyone is responsible for ensuring we operate as safely as possible in the air, on the ground, in the hangar, on the drive up to fight operations, and even in the classroom. If any individual student has safety concerns or questions, we are dedicated to providing open communication and resolution of the concern or question. Communication is essential and can ultimately prevent a concern from becoming an accident.
Safety Meeting
To facilitate effective communication, mandatory safety meetings are held once each semester. All aviation students are required to attend one of three sessions of this safety meeting. During the meeting, representatives from the aviation community, select students, the Director of Aviation, the Director of Flight Operations, and the Director of Safety will present information on relevant safety topics. Student participation is particularly valuable, since students are involved in flight operations on a daily basis. If you are interested in assisting with the safety topic or any safety-related issue, please contact the Director of Safety.
Reporting Safety Incidents
We have a safety report program in place to encourage open communication between students and persons in authority.
Three reporting methods are available:
- The SHORT (Safety Hazard Occurrence Recommendation Tracking) report allows for electronic and, if desired, anonymous submissions of reports relating to flight operations safety.
- A General Concern report may also be submitted if you witness a situation that is of concern or have a general recommendation or concern.
- A Safety Hazard or Incident Form may also be printed, filled out, and mailed to:
RMC Aviation Program Safety Program
1511 Poly Drive Billings, MT 59102
RMC is interested in learning from any hazards and/or incidents to further improve our safety program. The safety data will be used to prevent accidents and inform our continued efforts to reduce safety hazards and violations.
A safety scholarship award is presented each year to the student who contributes the most to our safety program. This award is presented at the end-of-the-year Aviation Awards Banquet.
