Chemistry

Chemistry, often referred to as the central science, is the study of the properties and transformations of matter. Chemistry provides an understanding of the world at the molecular level, which is important for all of the natural sciences. Chemistry is an integral part of modern life, and it is the basis for many recent advances in all areas of science and technology.

An understanding of the fundamentals of chemistry is an essential component of a liberal arts education. Our program is designed to show students the importance and the relevance that chemistry plays in their lives and to help them develop both their creative problem-solving and critical thinking skills.

The small class sizes at Rocky Mountain College provide our students with many advantages not found in chemistry programs at larger institutions. Faculty teach all of our chemistry courses, including the laboratory classes, making opportunities for interpersonal interactions between professors and students commonplace. Our students receive extensive training using a variety of modern instrumentation and at a level of instruction that is rare at larger colleges and universities. In addition, many of our faculty members are actively involved in research projects in their respective areas of interest, providing the opportunity for students to gain research experience while at RMC.

The chemistry program at Rocky Mountain College provides a solid educational foundation, opening the door to many careers in further avenues of study. Recent alumni of the chemistry program have excelled at the graduate level in chemistry, biochemistry, and chemical engineering, as well as other disciplines, including pharmaceutical science, dentistry, medicine, veterinary science, and law.
