Dr. Charles Schroeder accepts invitation as guest speaker for RMC commencement
BILLINGS, March 4, 2015 – Rocky Mountain College is honored to announce that Dr. Charles Schroeder has accepted the invitation as the guest speaker for RMC’s 133rd Commencement, which will take place on Saturday, May 2, 2015.
Dr. Schroeder visited RMC as a retention specialist from Noel-Levitz. “In just the short time he was on campus, he made significant strides in helping set us up for success,” said RMC President Robert Wilmouth. “It is an honor to have him speak to our graduating class."
After receiving his B.A. in psychology and history from Austin College, Dr. Schroeder went on to receive his M.A. in psychology from Oregon State University. He spent more than 30 years as the Chief Student Affairs Officer at Mercer University, Saint Louis University, Georgia Institute of Technology, and the University of Missouri-Columbia. He also served as a Professor of Higher Education in the Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis Department at the University of Missouri.
Dr. Schroeder became a senior executive at Noel-Levitz, and currently serves as a part-time senior associate consultant for Noel-Levitz specializing in retention and student success strategies and interventions.
He has published more than 90 articles and chapters in a number of journals and books. He is currently focused on student engagement, reform of undergraduate education, designing learning communities, applying quality principles, facilitating partnerships between student and academic affairs, improving retention and graduation rates, and creating innovative approaches to assessment.
Dr. Schroeder is the founding executive editor of “About Campus,” the official journal of the American College Personnel Association, and is the only academic leader in the 90-year history of the organization to serve two terms as the organization’s President (1986-87 and 1993-94). RMC Vice President/Dean for Student Life Brad Nason added, “Dr. Schroeder is a nationally acclaimed leader in student life.”
