RMC one of first in Montana to offer Military Honor Cord at commencement
BILLINGS, March 12, 2015 – Students graduating from Rocky Mountain College who serve, have served, or will be serving after graduation in the U.S. Armed Forces will receive the honor of wearing a Military Honor Cord during commencement beginning this year.
The Military Honor Cord initiative was established to recognize those students who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces and to honor their sacrifice, service, and commitment to our country and to academic excellence.
“Rocky Mountain College is one of the first in Montana to offer such a cord,” said RMC Community Service Coordinator Jill Washburn. “I am proud that Rocky Mountain College is supporting our student veterans and service members with these military honor cords. This initiative is just the beginning of some new programs that will be offered by the College. RMC is proud of the service that these students have made to our country and their academics."
Effective for RMC’s May 2015 graduation, those eligible for the Military Honor Cords will include honorably discharged U.S. veterans; those currently serving in the U.S. military (active duty, National Guard, or Reserves); or an ROTC student commissioning upon graduation. The red, white, and blue Military Honor Cord can be worn during commencement week ceremonies in recognition of their service to our country.
“Recognizing the commitment and service of our veterans, active duty, and ROTC students to our country and our campus is at the heart of our mission as an institution,” said RMC’s Director of Admissions Austin Mapston. Rocky Mountain College has been named a 2015 Military Friendly School.
The Military Honor Cords will be provided by RMC to any eligible graduate who requests one. For more information, contact Jill Washburn at 406.238.7394, or via email at email@example.com.
